SEASIDE APARTMENTS FOR SALE IN BULGARIA

TSAREVO

The town of Tsarevo has more than 6000 inhabitants and it lies 65 kilometres south of Bourgas. Like its neighbouring towns and villages, Tsarevo is situated by the sea and in the foothills of the Strandja Mountains. It lies on two small peninsulas encircling a beautiful little bay. The peak of Papiya, which is 502 metres (1647 feet) high and still has remnants of an ancient fortress, juts out to the south of the town and is one of Tsarevo's additional attractions.
In ancient times, the Greek colony of Vassiliko stood in this place. The town of Tsarevo did not become part of the territory of Bulgaria until 1912. The name of Tsarevo dates back to 1930. When the communists took power, the town was renamed Michurin in honour of the renowned Russian biologist, and it bore this name until the fall of socialist rule. Today Tsarevo is pleasant summer resort and an international port for small passenger ships.
Once one gets to Tsarevo, it is well worthwhile taking a trip deep into the Strandja Mountains. The mountain range was declared a nature reserve in 1995. It is one of the least explored regions in Bulgaria and it abounds in wildlife. The mountains also have many caves and bear the traces of ancient civilisations. The mountain villages in the region have a very distinctive character. The Strandja Mountains are a great place for excursions, mushroom-picking and hunting trips.
